Attending an interview is one of the most stressful things that you can do. Candidates have been know to get so anxious that they forget everything that they thought they had prepared. So make sure that you have prepared properly for your interview and that your skills are sharp!

The interview for the job is extremely important. Usually it will make the difference between being hired and being passed over for someone else. So, it’s imperative that you work to develop those skills to the best of your ability so you are the one that ends up landing the job.

Want to know how to begin improving your interview skills? Have a look at this interview tips sheet to help you prepare better for your interview. Remember, though, that reading is not enough - you have to use them too!!

One way to prepare and develop your interview skills is to develop answers to likely questions. Come up with questions that they will likely ask you. Then work on coming up with well structured answers to those questions. Include an intro, middle, and an end, when developing your answers.

It’s also important that you work on speaking clearly. Make sure you don’t rush when speaking. This not only makes you look nervous, but it makes you difficult to understand. Spend some time working on making sure that you speak in a clear and confident manner.

Critical components of a good interview body language system are a high smile rate and maintaining strong eye contact. Practice achieving this in the mirror and then with friends and family members. They will help you to come across as honest, trustworthy and likeable.

Practice, practice, practice. Unfortunately, most skills need to be repeated before they can be improved. You could just start answering questions to yourself and try to work out where you could install improving tweaks to your technique. However, it is far better to ask family members, friends or work colleagues to fire questions at you and listen to your responses. They will tend to be polite in their feedback - so listen actively for hints on how you can improve.

When you are answering questions during an interview, always give answers that are honest. If you don’t, you’ll probably show it in your body language. You are better off to answer honestly. The last thing you want is to give an answer, only for the interviewer to find out later you were lying. This is sure to take away any chance of you landing that job.

You also need to make sure that you sell yourself during an interview. Work on figuring out how you can do this before you actually have the interview. When you have the interview, you should work on selling yourself for the job, just as you would a product. Make sure you leave no doubt in their mind as to why they should choose you for the job.
